Craft Beer with a Refreshing Kick, Born in Japan

Sansho, a spicy and refreshing Japanese herb ale, uses sansho berries instead of some hops.

Native to Japan, sansho is said to have been consumed since the Jomon period as the oldest spice.

Ripe sansho berries are harvested around October, and their spicy aroma evokes the feeling of deepening autumn, which is why it has been adopted as SiKiTO CAFE's seasonal beer for autumn 2025.

By using sansho, which belongs to the citrus family, together with hops, a citrus aroma is created, making it surprisingly easy to drink!

You'll be surprised by the sansho flavor, just as the label suggests, and you can enjoy the lingering aroma that passes through your nose.

Born from a Moment at an Eel Restaurant

The origin of this unusual craft beer is said to be when the fourth-generation owner, visiting an eel restaurant, happened to taste beer with sansho on it.

The liquid is slightly brownish, and a fruity aroma, typical of ale beer, spreads throughout.

The pungent and aromatic sansho pairs perfectly with rich, fatty ingredients.

While its flavor complements Japanese cuisine in general, it is especially recommended with fried tuna, vegetable tempura, and mapo tofu.

Iwate Kura Beer: Where the Techniques of a Long-Established Brewery and the Brewers' Passion Reside

Iwate Kura Beer is a craft beer brand launched in 1995 by Sekiichi Shuzo, a sake brewery established in 1918.

With the mission of "delivering the charm of Iwate through beer," many of their ingredients are locally sourced. They use the rich spring water and groundwater from the Ou Mountains, ferment actively at room temperature, and do not filter or sterilize to preserve flavor and nutrients, producing fresh and healthy beer.

Beers crafted with the history and techniques of Sekiichi Shuzo, along with the experience and knowledge of their brewers, have won numerous prestigious awards in international competitions, and Japanese Herb Ale Sansho is loved worldwide in places like the US, Singapore, and Taiwan.

In addition to standard products, they also focus on seasonal offerings, captivating fans in various regions.
