EDA VASE: A Compact Way to Display Branches

Japan has a culture of appreciating the seasons by bringing seasonal plants into their homes as ikebana (flower arrangements). In recent years, with fewer opportunities to go out, some people may feel they have less chance to experience "nature and the changing seasons."

"Branches" are highly recommended for those who want to feel nature and the changing seasons while at home, and to drastically change the atmosphere of their space.

We developed the EDA VASE in collaboration with Aoyama Flower Market so that people who "were interested in branches but found them intimidating" or "want to start a life with flowers" can enjoy the unique charm of branches.

Water Changes Made Significantly Smoother

To arrange long branches that are tall and heavy, it's common to use a large vase to maintain balance.

However, large vases not only take up space but also require effort and strength to change the water. It would be a major disaster if a water-filled breakable vase were to tip over.

The EDA VASE combines a small vase with a stand to support branches, making the once arduous task of changing water much easier.

Functional and Compact Design

The EDA VASE's main body is very simple. The stand, made from a single bent steel rod like a continuous line drawing, has an opening in part of its circle to make it easier to insert and remove branches.

The concrete base weighs approximately 4kg, providing solid stability for supporting branches.

The metal parts are finished with antique-style gold paint. Each piece is carefully hand-finished to achieve a unique, subdued texture.

The base and stand are secured with industrial-style nuts. When not in use, the rod can be detached for storage[*].

Additionally, the bottom surface is covered with a urethane sheet to prevent scratches on floors and furnishings.

This innovative design has been recognized by the Japan Patent Office and is registered as a design patent (Design Registration 1694041).

Proof of Joint Development with Aoyama Flower Market

The EDA VASE logo and the official Aoyama Flower Market logo are engraved on the concrete base as proof of our collaboration.

They are placed subtly where they will be seen during water changes, so as not to interfere with the interior design.

To make water changes even easier, we've prepared a light and durable transparent polycarbonate vase perfectly suited for the EDA VASE.

Polycarbonate is a material with high impact resistance and weatherability. It boasts a transparency comparable to glass, and its strength is said to be 250 times that of glass!

Its lightness, characteristic of plastic, allows for water changes with minimal effort, making the EDA VASE even more convenient to use.

The EDA VASE won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2022[*], one of the world's three major design awards.
