More and more people are choosing aromatic craft beers as a small reward for their hard work.

Data shows that the craft beer market in Japan grew by 200% year-on-year in 2021 [*].

While craft beers are known for their rich aromas, there are two types of aromatic perceptions: "aroma," which is perceived by the nose before drinking, and "flavor," which is perceived when the beer is in the mouth.

To fully enjoy these two aromas, "The Beer likka," meaning "likka," was created under the supervision of Coedo Brewery.

Two mechanisms to fully enjoy the aroma

While most beer glasses have a straight silhouette, likka features a bulging body and a diagonally cut rim (mouthpiece).

The rounded shape of a wine glass is designed to allow the wine to come into contact with the air, releasing and retaining its aroma for enjoyment, and likka is no different. This bulging body is a calculated silhouette designed to enhance the aroma of the beer.

In addition, the diagonally cut rim design also has a mechanism for enjoying the aroma.

When you put your mouth to the lower side, the glass covers your nose, allowing you to fully enjoy the aroma of the beer. When you use the taller side, the glass is less likely to hit your nose when tilted, allowing you to fully savor the flavor when you gulp it down.

Beautiful texture like a water surface

The surface of likka features a texture resembling rippling water. Its undulations, delicate reflections of light, and even the shadows that appear are all beautiful, adding color to the precious time spent slowly savoring craft beer.

Thanks to this texture, there's also the advantage that it makes dirt and fingerprints on the glass surface less noticeable.

Handmade by glass artisans

Likka is made in the workshop of glass manufacturer "Sghr" (Sugahara) in Kujukuri, Chiba Prefecture. Glass artisans handcraft each piece individually.

Glass, born from natural materials, is melted by heating it to approximately 1,400°C, shaped, and then cooled to solidify. The essence of the artisan's skill lies in capturing the most beautiful moment of the molten liquid and forming it into shape.

Sugahara Glassworks Inc. was founded in 1932. Artisans, led by a voluntary development and research committee of employees, are engaged in daily new product development.
