Mountain Hydrangea with Vibrant and Lovely Indigo Blue Flowers

When it comes to flowers that soothe the eyes from early summer to the rainy season, hydrangeas come to mind.

With small flowers gathered together, one of their flower meanings is "family reunion," making them a recommended tree species for Mother's Day gifts.

Among hydrangeas, the mountain hydrangea is said to be close to the original species. Among them, 'Aihime' (Indigo Princess), with its small tree shape and modest indigo blue flowers, has a dignified atmosphere.

Its charm lies in its rustic yet elegant appearance, with deep indigo blue capturing the eye amidst the often cloudy scenery of the rainy season.

The part of the hydrangea called a flower is actually a developed calyx, a decorative flower, so it has a long blooming period, allowing you to enjoy its beautiful blossoms for about a month from mid-May.

The medium-sized one we have prepared fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

Imagining the plant blooming abundantly after receiving beneficial rain, we chose a "Hakusan" (White Mountain) colored pot and a "Awafuji" (Pale Wisteria) colored saucer.

As of early April, the leaves are fresh and vibrant.

After May, the buds may swell and flowering may progress.

Doesn't the way it turns blue as it blooms feel like the sky, growing more vibrant as it transitions from spring to summer?

Basic Care Instructions

Daily care is simple. Every few days, dunk the pot into a bowl of water! Let it soak up plenty of water until no more air bubbles emerge.

If you take good care of it, it will bloom every year.

It can be grown indoors, but it's best to place it by a window where there's good ventilation and sunlight. Taking it outdoors occasionally helps regulate the tree's rhythm.

During winter, it's crucial for it to experience a cold environment. After October, when the autumn foliage ends, encourage leaf drop in an environment similar to outdoors and ensure it undergoes proper dormancy.

All bonsai are carefully cultivated by Ishiki Hana staff with time and effort.

One of Ishiki Hana's unique charms is their gently shaped pots, all of which are self-produced.

Their approximately 50 original colors are given evocative names such as "Shiraame" (White Rain) and "Shinpiku" (Deep Green).

The "Shiki to Bonsai" collaboration with Ishiki Hana is available for a limited time each season.
