Lagerstroemia indica "Princess": Vibrant Flowers That Defy the Heat

Lagerstroemia indica "Princess" blooms from summer to autumn. This dwarf horticultural variety of crape myrtle is known as "Hyakunichikō" (literally "100-day red") due to its exceptionally long flowering period.

Its ruffled, wavy petals are as showy as a tropical stage costume.

The leaves are glossy, taking on a reddish hue when young. The buds at the tips of the branches are plump like berries, creating a striking contrast with the open flowers.

This time, we've prepared a medium-sized bonsai that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.

To highlight its exotic presence, we chose the pot color "Awayuki" (light snow) and a saucer in a sunny "Biwa" (loquat) shade.

When photographed in late May, small buds were visible at the branch tips. We look forward to seeing them grow.

This tree loves sunlight, so outdoor cultivation is preferable. Abundant sunlight encourages more flowers. During the summer, be careful not to let it dry out.

Experiencing temperature changes in autumn and winter promotes autumn leaves and leaf shedding. During its deciduous state, lack of sunlight is not an issue.

If growing indoors, choose the sunniest possible spot and frequently move it outdoors to expose it to sunlight, rain, and wind.

② Hime Sarusuberi (Dwarf Crape Myrtle) (Medium Size)

Its vibrantly colored flowers, blooming in the heat, are perfectly suited to the sun. With a long flowering period, hence the name "Hyakunichikō" (meaning "100-day red"), it can sometimes be enjoyed until autumn if well-cared for.

With proper care, it will bloom abundantly on its branch tips in subsequent years.

The Nire Keyaki, with its gentle-colored leaves densely covering the branch tips, offers a grand aesthetic even in a small size. In winter, it transforms into a leafless winter tree.

Opening the Door to Nature: Shiki-no-Hana Bonsai Specialty Store

Based in Murayama City, Yamagata Prefecture, Shiki-no-Hana is a bonsai brand. The SiKiTO representative fell in love with their beautiful and refined bonsai, leading to this collaboration.

All bonsai are carefully cultivated by Shiki-no-Hana staff with time and effort.

One of Shiki-no-Hana's unique charms is its gently shaped pots, all self-produced.

Around 50 original colors are given evocative names such as "Shiraame" (white rain) and "Shinryoku" (deep green).

The "Four Seasons and Bonsai" collaboration with Shiki-no-Hana is sold for a limited period each season.
