[Behind the Scenes of the Branch Subscription] From Market Procurement to Delivery

Hello. I'm Shinya Sato, CEO of TRINUS, and I've been busy launching our "Branch Delivery Subscription."

This time, I'll take you behind the scenes of our "Branch Delivery Subscription" and show you how we procure our branches at the market.

① Procurement

There are several markets in Tokyo that handle flowers (all ornamental plants), including Ota, Setagaya, and Adachi.

Currently, "Branch Delivery Subscription" procures its branches at Kasai Market. This market, which handles fruits, vegetables, and flowers, has the third-largest land area (1.6 times that of Tokyo Dome) among Tokyo's 11 central wholesale markets, after Toyosu Market and Ota Market.

At the market, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, when transactions take place, are called "Omotebi" (transaction days). "Branch Delivery Subscription" goes to procure branches particularly on Mondays and Fridays, when procurement is most active.

A wide variety of cut flowers and branches from all over the country are arranged in cardboard boxes by wholesale dealers.

② Pre-processing

After opening the cardboard boxes, the first step is to sort them into smaller bundles.

At the same time, we remove any lower branches or unnecessary leaves that would get in the way when displaying them.

The reason for this important work is not just to improve their appearance. Too many leaves can cause rapid water transpiration, and the roots may not be able to supply water fast enough.

Fewer leaves make for a cleaner look! We hope they last a long time.

③ Packaging

Once pre-processing is complete, we tie each delivery with a rubber band and wrap it in kraft paper like a bouquet.

This protects the branches and prevents fallen leaves from soiling the customer's home.

④ Water absorption

Next, we make a cut at the base of the branches and let them absorb water in a special bucket filled with water for about 1 to 2 days. This process is called "mizuage" (water absorption).

⑤ Delivery

We considered various delivery methods, but since we handle our own delivery, our current thinking is that delivering them directly in special buckets is the best option.

These buckets, called "ELF buckets," are commonly used by flower-related businesses such as markets, wholesalers, and florists. They allow for transport with water, maintaining freshness, and can be used as is for unattended deliveries.

After arranging the branches in your vase at home, please store the bucket and return it with the old branches when they are collected.

Aiming for the Optimal System for Branches

We are working diligently to build a system that allows us to deliver fresh branches, which are often difficult to purchase at flower shops.

To continuously improve this new system that has never existed before, we would be delighted if you could share any feedback you may have.

The "Branch Delivery Subscription" brings the season into your home by delivering long branches that are often difficult to buy at stores.
