[Our own branch cultivation] Approximately two years after moving to Toyooka Village, the farm, which was once nothing, has expanded to half the size of Tokyo Dome.

I'm Hasegawa, and I'm involved in growing cut branches in Toyooka Village, Nagano Prefecture.

This winter has been exceptionally cold, with temperatures in Toyooka Village sometimes dropping to -10℃.

As a cut branch farmer, the winter fills me with more concern for the seedlings in my fields than for myself, and the weather forecast is my constant preoccupation.

These changes in myself sometimes make me deeply realize, "I've really become a farmer."

By the time this winter's reclamation work, including the newly rented land, is completed, the total area of my fields will be approximately 2.5 hectares[*]! A quick check shows that's about half the size of Tokyo Dome.

Some say it might be a bit too much for one person to manage, but I'm determined to see it through!

Thankfully, there are people in the village who tell me, "We'll help you with weeding and harvesting." I'm happy to think that my efforts are gradually being recognized by the villagers. (laughs)

Starting in April, I will be entering my third and final year as a member of the Regional Revitalization Cooperation Team.

I will continue to do my best to deliver even better cut branches from this region even after my term ends, so I appreciate your continued support!
