[Seasons and Me] Why a Professional Organizer Chooses Branches for Her Home.

In early summer 2025, we visited the beautifully organized home of a professional organizer.

We heard many interesting stories about organizing and tidying, which are likely top concerns for many people. After reading this, you'll surely want to look around your own home.

Professional Organizer
Eri Shino

I visit clients' homes and help them organize and tidy together.

My journey into this profession dates back to my childhood. My parents, who had many hobbies, accumulated a lot of things and were from a generation that didn't discard items easily. Our home was overflowing with belongings.

I admired the work of making rooms beautiful, so after graduating from university, I worked as an interior coordinator.

After leaving my job, I was busy raising three children. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and with the whole family home every day, the house was constantly messy.

"I used to work in interior design, so why can't I keep things tidy?" I wondered, and became interested in obtaining a professional organizing certification. What I learned in the course wasn't just storage techniques, but that "tidying" is essential before "storage."

Until then, our home's storage was just about stuffing things in. I realized I was making excuses like, "It was a gift," or "I bought it, so I should keep it."

The ultimate goal of organizing is to create a comfortable future for yourself and your family.

The process of confronting my feelings and past, and re-evaluating what was truly important to me, was tough, and it took about a year to organize my home. But through that process, I discovered many treasures of my own.

When items have a designated spot based on flow and frequency of use, housework becomes easier. My family no longer asks, "Where is that?"

We professional organizers don't say "throw away," we say "let go."

Many of my clients say, "It's a waste to throw it away."

However, things are created to be used, so leaving them tucked away and forgotten is actually the biggest waste. In such cases, let's try to "make an effort to use them." If they still don't suit you, let them go with gratitude. This frees up space for things you love and use frequently.

There are two reasons why I have so many plants in my home.

First, they bring a sense of calm. Second, green is a neutral color that blends well with any interior. I often recommend it to my clients.

When incorporating plants, balance in size is important.

Large plants, which can be called "symbol trees," have a high interior effect and become a focal point, the main attraction of a room. Medium-sized ones can be placed on the floor or tables, and small ones can be subtly displayed in the kitchen or washroom, which is also effective.

My favorite season is early summer, from May to June, when new greenery appears. I find the way the leaves of the Enkianthus perulatus flutter in the wind particularly charming, and even their falling evokes a sense of life.

Most of the plants in the living room are real, but in the bedroom, I have fake plants that require no maintenance.

I want to continue approaching my work with gratitude, so that more people can love their homes.

As she said, "I always dreamed of having a home where I could invite guests at any time," and her neatly organized home is truly something everyone would aspire to. The effective use of artificial greenery was also very helpful! The video featuring her is also available on YouTube as part of the "Four Seasons and Me" series. Please take a look if you like. Ms. Shino, thank you for your cooperation during your busy schedule!
