[Branch Subscription Event] Gathering of Seasonal Branches: Early Winter & Christmas

At the end of 2023, we held an event called "Gathering of Branches to Feel the Four Seasons (Early Winter/Christmas)," where we enjoyed early winter branches with our valued customers.

Here is a report on the impressive live branch arrangement and swag making workshop.

The venue was the headquarters of TRINUS, the company that operates SiKiTO. We welcomed guests with autumn and winter branches arranged throughout the compact office.

First, TRINUS representative Sato greeted the guests. He spoke about SiKiTO's vision and future activities.

His greeting became quite passionate as he spoke about various initiatives for utilizing discarded branches, a project to utilize wild Japanese andromeda in Kurotaki Village, Nara Prefecture, and the development of new services utilizing agricultural resources.

Next, it was time for a live branch arrangement by floral designer Hiroyuki Oka, who is also involved in the management of the branch subscription service!

The first item placed in the large goblet-shaped glass vase was a magnificent dead branch.

He apparently liked the branch shape of the blueberry he used in the summer and had left it exposed to the rain on his balcony until this day.

After outlining the work with this dead branch, he dynamically arranged eucalyptus, tallow tree, Viburnum tinus, and acacia.

Watching the evergreen eucalyptus being added to the bare branches and then each chic berry being placed one by one, it felt like watching a time-lapse of the wild landscape transitioning from autumn to winter.

The second piece was an arrangement using the EDA VASE.

Decorating a long, white-painted branch with natural ornaments transformed it into a delicate and beautiful white tree.

He also taught easy arrangement methods after hearing customers' voices saying, "It's a waste to throw away small branches cut during branch care." He suggested making swags or gathering many short branches to make a wreath.

He said, "The appeal comes from putting them together roughly without overthinking it."

By the time the live arrangement was over, a variety of works, large and small, lined the tables.

The latter half of the event was a workshop on making swags using autumn and winter branches.

Some of the floral materials used this time were discarded branches from the regular branch delivery service.

After Oka's lecture, the customers started creating. Everyone was engrossed, striving for their ideal finished product.

Once the shape of the swag is decided, it must be bundled with a "rubber band." If using string, the branches may thin out and slip through as they dry.

Wrap a hook wire and ribbon over the rubber band, and it's complete! 👏

Even though the same floral materials were used, each finished piece had a unique expression, which surprised us.

The branches in the venue were taken home as souvenirs. I remember seeing their smiling faces as they pondered where to display them.

The next Gathering of Branches is scheduled for cherry blossom season. We look forward to enjoying flower viewing with our customers then.
