Elegant Weeping Cherry with Downward-Facing Pale Flowers

When it comes to flowers symbolizing spring in Japan, cherry blossoms have always been, and still are, the undisputed choice.

Weeping cherry trees, reminiscent of flowing streams and gentle spring breezes, were even celebrated as "Itozakura" (thread cherry) in the Manyoshu anthology, and have been cherished as a special kind of cherry blossom since ancient times.

The sight of delicate branches adorned with gracefully drooping flowers perfectly embodies the Japanese aesthetic of "furyu" (elegance and refined taste).

This time, we've prepared an impressive large size. Its presence during blooming is outstanding.

The contrast between the "Hakutou" (white ceramic) pot and the "Doukoku" (copper black) saucer enhances the delicate beauty of the flowers.

When photographed in early February, the drooping branches were covered with numerous flower buds. They are likely to be even fuller when delivered.

To grow it healthily, indoor care alone might not be sufficient. Please keep it in a location with plenty of sunlight and good ventilation as much as possible, and occasionally move it outdoors to regulate its rhythm.

Especially during winter, allowing it to experience cold temperatures properly encourages the formation of flower buds.

If brought indoors after late winter, it will bloom in approximately 3 to 4 weeks.

After the flowers, the leaves will unfurl, and their eventual autumn color and defoliation are also a delightful sight.

① Miyama Kirishima Tsutsuji (Small size)

Miyama Kirishima Tsutsuji is a rhododendron species endemic to Japan, self-propagating only in volcanic mountainous regions of Kyushu.

It is popular for its small leaves, fine branching, excellent flowering, and hardiness. Its elegant deep pink flowers have a long blooming period and are a joy to behold.

② Kometsutsuji (Small size)

Kometsutsuji has tiny leaves resembling grains of rice. It blooms with lighter purple flowers than Miyama Kirishima.

In winter, its leaves turn red with the cold, but as a semi-deciduous tree, it doesn't completely shed its leaves. It displays a charming and endearing appearance throughout the year.

③ Hakuchouge (Medium size)

Hakuchouge, with its profusion of pure white small flowers, possesses a delicate charm that might remind you of childhood treasures.

As an evergreen, its variegated foliage can be enjoyed year-round.

④ Asahiyama Zakura (Medium size)

Asahiyama Zakura features a strong, straight trunk adorned with splendid double-flowered blossoms.

You can fully enjoy the changing seasons, from blooming to foliage and defoliation, all within a small pot.

⑤ Jugatsuzakura (Large size)

Jugatsuzakura is a double-flowering cherry tree named for its autumn blooms (Jugatsu means October).

Even a few pale pink blossoms convey a special elegance.

Shidarezakura, with its drooping branches descended from Higanzakura, has been cherished as an elegant cherry blossom since ancient times.

Ishikiha, a bonsai brand based in Murayama City, Yamagata Prefecture. SiKiTO's representative fell in love with their beautiful and refined bonsai, leading to this collaboration.

All bonsai are carefully cultivated by Ishikiha staff, taking time and effort.

One of Ishikiha's unique charms is its gently shaped, in-house produced pots.

Approximately 50 original colors are given elegant names such as "Hakuu" (white rain) and "Shinpiki" (deep emerald).

The "Shiki to Bonsai" collaboration with Ishikiha is sold for a limited time each season.
