Goyomatsu (Japanese White Pine): A Symbol of Longevity "Awaiting Your Service"

As its name suggests, the Goyomatsu, or Japanese White Pine, is a native Japanese pine with five needles in a bundle.

Its evergreen appearance, even in the harsh winters of mountainous regions, has long made it a symbol of youth and longevity, and it's a beloved staple for bonsai.

Its growth is moderate and its shape is resistant to collapsing, making it an easy species for beginners to manage.

The pronunciation of "Goyomatsu" can be a pun for "awaiting your service," making it a good luck charm for career success, so it's also recommended as a gift.

Even at a medium size, its dignified impression stands out. The pot color, "Sumi," evokes a powerful, blurred brushstroke, while the saucer's "Wakakusa" (young grass) color is inspired by evergreen young leaves.

It is resistant to both heat and cold, so outdoor management is generally recommended.

If kept indoors, ensure ample sunlight and ventilation, and place it in a cool room during winter. Occasionally exposing it to outdoor wind and rain will help it grow vigorously.

① Hiiragi (Holly)

② Kuromatsu (Japanese Black Pine)

Kuromatsu, a classic bonsai species, possesses a unique presence that combines strength and charm.

It is considered a good luck charm because its green leaves thrive all year round and it has a long lifespan. It is also well-known today as one of the "Three Friends of Winter" (Shochikubai) derived from its ability to maintain its beauty even in the cold winter.

③ Kamatsuka Kokemomo (Cotoneaster)

Kamatsuka Kokemomo, an evergreen native to Taiwan, has a somewhat oriental feel.

White small flowers bloom in spring, and the berries turn red from late summer to autumn. December to January is the best time to see them.

Yabukouji, also known as Yamadachibana in the "Manyoshu" poetry anthology, has been beloved by people since ancient times.

In winter, its red berries hang charmingly, and it is also an auspicious plant displayed as "Juryo" (ten ryō, an old currency unit) for New Year's celebrations.

⑥ Asebi (Japanese Andromeda)

Asebi is a popular choice for cut branches. In early spring, it produces a magnificent display of bell-shaped reddish-purple flowers in clusters.

This species can be enjoyed year-round, from its reddish new shoots in early summer to its glossy leaves in mid-summer and beyond.

Senjumaru, a type of Japanese black pine, possesses "yatsubusa" (multiple buds) characteristics, meaning its branches divide finely.

Its appeal lies in its vigorously growing leaves and the dramatically changing texture of its trunk. We offer an extra-large size that exudes dignity.

All bonsai are carefully cultivated by Ishiki Hana staff with time and effort.

One of Ishiki Hana's unique charms is their gently shaped, in-house produced pots.

Approximately 50 original colors are named with evocative terms such as "Hakuu" (White Rain) and "Shinryoku" (Deep Green).
